PHILOSOPHY
BIODYNAMIC & OUT OF THE BOX
A project brought to life by power couple, Rebecca and Paul, with a single wine released in 2020, ‘King of the Castle’ is one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon’s from Margaret River we have come across. The wine is unique from every angle, it is aromatically charged, with lift and elegance from nose to tail.
The grapes come from a biodynamically farmed vineyard located in Rosa Glen, approximately 15 kms south of the town of Margaret River. A 25-year-old vineyard on sandy loam soils, dry grown and one of the few narrow planted blocks of this variety within the region.
Bec and Paul do all the manual work in the vineyard through the year. Building an intimate connection with the vines, allowing them to grow the most energized and expressive fruit they possibly can, on what they saw as a magical piece of land.
The winemaking approach is gentle but persuasive. Wild ferments and a long maceration on skins, stalks and vine pruning’s, which encourages the grapes to spend as much time as possible connected to the vineyard, even after fermentation. Enabling the added benefit of building up a fine tannin profile from the vineyard wood and not from the use of oak, which they feel is truer to the site.
Dirty Rascal Wine Co carries a wealth of experience amongst the duo, with several vintages under their belt and working across an array of wine regions around the world.
We simply cannot wait to see what the future holds for them and the wines they will bring to us as the portfolio grows ever so slightly…
