Domaine Camille & Laurent Schaller is a family estate winery based in Préhy, a village in the heart of Chablis. Laurent and his son Camille cultivate three grape varieties with Aligoté, Pinot Noir and of course Chardonnay taking up most of their production, with their vineyards located in the villages of Préhy, Courgis, Chablis, Poilly sur Serein, Chichée (1er Cru Vaucoupin) and Beine (1er Cru Vau de Vey).

The winery was established in 1964 and until recent times their total production had been dedicated to the local cooperative. However, Camille and his young blood believing so deeply in the quality of their wines persuaded the family to create their own label with the 2014 vintage. Eventually branching out with 1er Cru vineyards purchased that same year for future production.

The 2016 Vaucoupin is the first vintage of their 1er Cru wines showing huge potential as to where Camille & Laurent are headed with Cru status vineyards. Most definitely an exciting reassurance for the Domaine with the upcoming release of Vau de Vey 1er Cru, which will be their next addition to the portfolio.

The Schaller family own all of the vineyards they currently work with and are committed to manage them under rigorous sustainable practices, producing honest wines with a distinctive personality in every cuvée.

Senses At Wine Company

Domaine Chalmeau is owned and operated by Patrick Chalmeau, wife Christine and daughter Elodie. The Chalmeau family has been making wine on the property, since Patrick’s grandfather created the estate after the second world war. The property is located between Auxerre and Chablis, in the charming village of Chitry, producing Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne Chitry Rouge, Bourgogne Chitry Blanc, Chablis and Chablis Montmains 1er Cru.

They currentlyhave 17 hectares under vine and endeavour to follow sustainable practices across their whole production. On this first shipment, we have only introduced the Aligoté to Australia, in which bring’s us a snap shot of their capacity to make wines that are complex and layered, showing precision and finesse. No doubt, in future we will see more of what this unassuming Domaine has to offer.

JanotsBos is a venture between Thierry Janots and Richard Bos, two admirable winemakers with a passion for quality wines from the Côte d’Or in Burgundy. Establishing a Meursault based winery in 2005, brilliantly expressing terroir through their whole range of predominately Chardonnay, originating from prestigious vineyard sites across the region.

Their story began in 1996 when they first met at wine school in Beaune, the Lyceé Viticole. Almost ten years had gone by since the friendship was nurtured throughout their tuition, before they decided to join forces and create JanotsBos.

The power partnership source their fruit from specific parcels in Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Pouilly-Fuissé, Rully (their most recent addition) and Pommard specifically for the Bourgogne Rouge, which we hope to add to the portfolio in future.

The wines available today are showing exceptional drinkability and it has been an absolute treat to launch the brand in Australia with these three white cuvées from the much-admired 2014 vintage.

Senses At Wine Company

Domaine Jacky Piret has been a family operated winery for generations, run by Frederique & Jacky Piret, situated in Belleville-sur-Soane, near Brouilly, the heart of Beaujolais. They have 12 hectares of vineyards spread across the appellation, with 5 Crus that are maintained under sustainable principles to respect the environment.

Their winemaking follows traditional Beaujolais technique, with carbonic maceration before pressing and élevage in old barrique. Piret wines seem to display a family stamp across their range of Cru’s, producing Gamay at its best, with wines that are elegant and complex. The humble couple appear to be very distant from the modern world, which is reflected through their wines, provoking a sense of time travel when drinking them, as if going back to their ancestor’s production.

Senses At Wine Company

Vins des Broyers has been producing wine for centuries, however completely restructured in 2003, when Pierre Coquard’s family took over the estate. Growing Gamay and Chardonnay grapes after years of restoration to the Chateau, rebuilding of the facilities and replanting vineyards to achieve the standards that the family wanted for their wines.

The Coquard’s have been committed to eco-supervised wine-growing, upholding tradition, terroir understanding and minimal interference through their processes. Winemaker Jean-Michel Bataillard, puts his 30 years’ experience towards bringing Vins des Broyers to great heights in years to follow. Since 2008, the combination of all of these factors lead Broyers to introduce an alternative and innovative wine, Jeu de Bulles, which is a sparkling rosé made by traditional method, made from 100% Gamay.

CLASSIC

Domaine des Thermes has been the stronghold of the Robert family for over two centuries, with the first proprietorship logged in 1792. The estate is located throughout an ancient Roman villa that has been recognized by the excavation of ruins that bring evidence of baths within the surroundings of the property, hence the name ‘Thermes’.

Today the estate is run by Michel Robert and wife Annie, together with their sons Sylvain and Olivier, allowing each member of the family to have their role and work in perfect synergy in order to make great wines.

Michel has now conceded most of his daily duties to the young men, with Sylvain in charge of winemaking, Olivier on the viticultural front whereas mother Annie is hosting visitors and driving sales on a daily basis. A strong team combination with incredibly committed and hard working principals throughout the family.

The Domaine now has approximately 40 hectares under vine with two-thirds classified as Côtes de Provence AOP. The vineyard is essentially made up of only classic Provençal grape varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Rolle, which is the white variety taking up 15% of this cuvée.

Thermes ‘Fotunae’ Rosé delivers a glass loaded with aromatics reminiscent of stone fruit blossom, abundant forest fruit and supported with texture that goes the extra mile.

It is with great satisfaction that the Robert family look back at their decision to leave the cooperative system and produce their own label in 1998, delivering a true and soulful great from the Côte de Provence.

CLASSIC

Chateau de Monbrison is an old Cru Bourgeois Margaux estate, located in the commune of Arsac on the left bank of Bordeaux. The property was purchased by Robert Davis in 1921, an American that was heavily involved in the Bordeaux negociant business together with his wife and family.

The Chateau eventually was run by his daughter Elizabeth, whom brought significant influence on the direction that the old estate would take in years to follow, commanding the replanting of the entire vineyard in the early 60’s and a decade later bringing to life the first vintage of their own label in 1974.

Monbrison is now lead by her son Laurent Vonderheyden, however convinced that the Cru Bourgeois status classification of late has become a rather unstable authority, he has withdrawn the Chateau from the system. Not an easy decision at the time, however Laurent stands firm in belief by the successful history of the Chateau, which has proven to be one of the elite producers of its level amongst the Margaux appellation.

There are 13.2 hectares of vineyards located in one single plot surrounding the Chateau, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (20%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Petit Verdot (5%).

The wines produced under the Margaux AOP show classic notes of a perfumed and floral nose, posing firm yet supple structure with typical left bank fruit depth.

In a hypothetical debate today amid the trade, there may be an anecdote that in any reassessment of the 1855 classification, Chateau de Monbrison would be a definite candidate for promotion to Cru Classé.

IN AND OUT OF THE SQUARE

Vignoble Mingot is a third generation family operated winery, on the right bank of Bordeaux in the area of Savignac-de-l’Isle. This is where their historical Chateau Marechaux property is located 7 kms north of the vineyards in Lalande de Pomerol.

Julien Mingot son of Michel is in charge of the operation with approximately 21 ha’s of predominantly Merlot planted, including small parcels of the other classic Bordeaux companions.

The Maréchaux grapes are sourced from where the original property is located, having produced since the early days two labels at different levels; Domaine and Château, the latter being of a higher tier.

The Mingot family have also integrated a range of red wines with a modern concept named ‘Pur’; a natural, low sulphur, monovarietal and quirky labelled Bordeaux Supérieur. This range is comprised of a Merlot and a Cabernet Franc with a Malbec in the pipeline as vineyards reach proper maturity in years to come.

In 2015 Julien launched a new wine, Château La Pensée; which represents the Lalande de Pomerol vineyard acquired in recent years, producing a promising addition to their range.

Vignoble Mingot is a producer that delivers superb quality and a great representation of right bank Bordeaux, providing excellent value across the portfolio.
